Afrin: Samarkand Division Members Rob Kurdish Civilian’s Home and Assault His Wife

In a new incident in the ongoing series of escalating violations, a group of armed members from the Samarkand Brigade, led by a man known as Abu Jihad, carried out an armed robbery at midnight on Saturday, October 11, 2025, targeting the home of Sabri Majid Naasan (65 years old), a Kurdish resident of the village of Ruwaita in the Maabatli district.

According to local sources, the militants broke into the house and physically assaulted the homeowner’s wife before stealing gold jewelry and cash, leaving the woman in a severely distressed physical and psychological state.

It is noteworthy that Sabri Naasan had previously been forcibly displaced from his village following the Turkish army’s incursion and the advance of its allied armed factions into the Afrin region. He had recently returned to repair his home and harvest his olive crop.

This incident comes amid a notable increase in thefts, looting, and armed robberies targeting the homes and properties of indigenous Kurdish residents in the area.

Despite statements by the Afrin local administration and security authorities promising to protect residents and their belongings, facts on the ground indicate a lack of any real intervention. Dozens of thefts of olive fields and repeated assaults on passersby have been recorded — developments that locals describe as a blatant violation of all laws and regulations issued by the local administration.
